Recycled and Renewable – Only at HMI

Leading the Way in Sustainable Concrete Solutions

It’s the right thing to do.  It feels good.  It’s morally responsible.  It secures our future.  It sells.  However,  the phrase is also trendy, ambiguous, a possible marketing ploy, and often misused.  Green technology has come a long way, and has also just begun.

During the race to go green, we have seen great success and innovation, but in some cases, a compromise in product quality.  Sometimes what helps Mother Earth in one way completely wrongs her in another.

What is the right balance between being environmentally responsible, competitive, and having the best product on the market?

We at HMI understand.  We, like you, have very high standards.  We want to have our cake and eat it too.  We want to provide the highest quality products on the market that are also genuinely environmentally responsible.  We don’t just want to stick a “green” label on the packaging in order to stay current with the trend.

HMI, exclusively, has found the answer  (well, actually two answers):  RECYCLED AND RENEWABLE.

 Recycled

You’ve heard us mention at our 2-Day discovery and Training Seminar  that our foam contains recycled material a time or two (or a million).  It’s because we are extremely proud to be the ONLY provider of polyurethane foam used for concrete lifting that uses recycled material (patent pending).  Our pride comes from the fact that not only does the recycled content provide a truly “green” aspect to our material, but it also takes the quality of our product to the next level.  It’s really a win-win.

I know what you’re thinking.  “How can adding ‘junk’ foam to your product really make it better?”  To answer this, let us break it down (no pun intended).

Our recycled content begins with scrap polyurethane foam.  The scrap comes from one source making it a consistent and reliable product.  It is not a hodgepodge of waste foam – this scrap has never been used.  This originally petroleum based product is given new life in our foams instead of being shipped to a landfill.  It is chemically broken down, all the way down to its basic chemical building blocks using cutting-edge patented technology that you will not find in any other concrete lifting foams.  The product is then “rebuilt” into a custom polyol – a polyurethane component that is perfect fit for what we want it to do.  The recycled component is reactive, fast, strong, stable, and above all great at lifting concrete!  Recycled material actually helps us to cut back on other (what we would consider) “junk”  in the form of chemicals, catalysts, and other additives that typically need to accompany solely petroleum-based products.  If we haven’t caught your attention yet, recycled material and less additives also means that we can offer very competitive pricing that doesn’t increase with the rising cost of oil.

 Renewable

Another avenue to take in the direction of “going green” is to lessen our dependence on oil.  While recycling foam is a great way to utilize foam that would otherwise sit in a landfill, it is still a petroleum product.  This is where we step in an and give our recycled component the perfect companion – a renewable polyol.

The term “renewable” is often confused with “recycled”.  In fact, even some polyurethane manufacturers will label their product as being recycled when actually it contains renewable components.   “Renewable” means that its carbon content comes from sources that can be replaced (unlike oil).  There are many different sources possible; some are better than others.  Often polyurethane manufacturers will find that only a small concentration of polyols from renewable resources can be incorporated into a formula before the resulting foam becomes compromised.   They are usually quick to label their products as “green”, when only a very small percentage comes from renewable resources.

That’s not the case here.  At HMI, we are very proud of the renewable content in our foam.  As with recycled content, we have found a way to incorporate renewable materials into the foam that actually benefits the overall product quality.  HMI’s renewable content will soon be officially labeled to also give you a nod in the green market and the edge in competitive fields such as federal bidding.

And we don’t plan to stop.  HMI promise’s  to continue lead the way with the most environmentally friendly, innovative, highest quality products on the market.  Not because we want to jump on the trendy “green” bandwagon, but because it’s the right thing to do.
