Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP) testing is used to evaluate subgrade soil conditions with depth. Testing involves driving a cone-tipped rod into the soil and recording the number of blows required to penetrate a specified depth. Depending on the DCP apparatus used, blow counts can be correlated to Standard Penetration Test (SPT) blow counts or California Bearing Ratio (CBR) values at various depths. Low blow counts generally indicate weaker soils that may require improvement, while higher blow counts indicate greater soil resistance. Pre-project DCP evaluations help identify weak soil layers and develop targeted repair strategies. Post-project testing can then be compared with initial results to evaluate and quantify the effectiveness of the soil improvement.

USE: The hydraulically operated DPM 30 utilizes a 60-degree cone tip driven by a 30 kg (66 lb) hammer with a 200 mm (7.87 in.) drop height. A hydraulic extraction system allows for efficient removal of driven rods, while a pedal-operated control system provides simple, intuitive operation.
VERSATILITY: In addition to DCP testing, the DPM 30 can be equipped with a soil sampler to collect relatively undisturbed samples, providing additional subsurface information to improve interpretation of blow count data.
RELIABILITY AND CONVENIENCE: The DPM 30 features a modular design with quick-connect couplings for efficient assembly and operation. Its compact size allows for easy transportation and testing in confined spaces with overhead clearances as low as 5 feet, where traditional equipment may not be accessible. Testing depths of 30 feet or more can be achieved, depending on soil conditions.
POWER SUPPLY SUITED TO ANY SITUATION: The DPM 30 is available with either a gasoline-powered or electric hydraulic power pack to accommodate different project conditions and site requirements.
The Vertek DCP evaluates soil strength and identifies weak soil layers at various depths, helping contractors develop targeted repair strategies. This portable testing system provides quick and valuable subsurface information for contractors.
