Void Filling

FILLFOAM™ Concrete Void Filler: Lightweight, Free‑Flowing Foam Fill

Void-filling solutions are necessary when large voids exist in or around soil, abandoned tanks, pipes or mines, and the structural integrity of a surface is compromised. You might discover that unstable soil or erosion is the reason for voids on a site.

HMI supports you with the FILLFOAM material, specialized equipment and training necessary for ongoing success.

WHAT IS Void filling with FILLFOAM™?

FILLFOAM is a pre-expanded open-cell foam formulated with ideal characteristics for any void-filling applications. Pumped at full volume, FILLFOAM does not lose volume when applied in confinement.

Without the by-product of heat, FILLFOAM is a safe and fast way of filling void cavities quickly and with limited access. Unlike polyurethane, which is “blown” with a chemical reaction via water or gas, FILLFOAM is air blown and the cells harden. See the following characteristics of our product:

Applications of Void-Filling Foam

FILLFOAM™ is the ideal solution for void-filling challenges. Any void can be re-excavated if necessary. Example applications include:

How Does FILLFOAM™ Work?

Using FILLFOAM products from HMI requires specialized training. HMI will suggest an educational experience for those who want to explore new career opportunities or learn a new practice for restoring surfaces. Our FILLFOAM offerings work once you complete an initial inspection of the void in question.

Our products act as foam hole filler solutions. You and your team can utilize HMI injection site equipment to carefully add FILLFOAM solutions right under a surface, deep below a surface, in a tank, within a pipe or inside a well, to name a few examples. Once applied, the expanding foam used to fill holes changes from a liquid consistency to a solid. The absence of large voids underneath concrete and soil allows the above surface to support additional weight and forces that would otherwise result in the slabs sinking further. Specific uses of FILLFOAM include:

FILLFOAM™ Is Certified to NSF/ANSI/CAN 61

FILLFOAM has been certified to NSF/ANSI/CAN-61

This verifies that our products are safe for use in and around drinking water and other water sources in the United States and Canada through ALS-Truesdail Laboratories. This is a significant milestone in our continued growth and success of our company and of our partners’. This certification shows our commitment to providing our customers with the highest of quality product along with the peace of mind that you are providing your customers with a clean, safe, and sustainable solution.

Frequently Asked Questions

FillFoam can begin to solidify in a few minutes. The temperature and moisture in the surrounding environment will impact how long it will take to cure.

FillFoam is not polyurethane foam material that is created by a water or gas blown chemical reaction. FillFoam is a plural component material that is air blown.

The same material can achieve a range of densities. The equipment settings control the output of density.

This will be based on the density of foam installed. A drum set of FillFoam will produce 2 cubic yards of high density foam or over 8 cubic yards of lightweight low density foam. The larger tote sets can produce 5 times more than a drum set. FillFoam densities can range from 4-15 pounds per cubic foot or 108-405 pounds per cubic yard.

The advantage is that there is no heat during FillFoam installation. On high volume applications where heat would be a concern for polyurethane, FillFoam is safer. FillFoam will not replace polyurethane for concrete lifting, but will be much more efficient to fill voids.

Also, some applications where material needs to be pumped long distances FillFoam can flow as far as 500 ft or up to miles based on the density. Polyurethanes ability to flow would be limited by the reaction time. It is a matter of using the right product to fit the specific project conditions. There are times that could be polyurethane foam, FillFoam or both.

FillFoam is pumped and installed pre-expanded. There is no expansion after the product is installed.

FillFoam™ is a combination of open and closed cells. This foam is highly sophisticated, comparable to an engineered soil replacement.
FillFoam™ can absorb water without changing shape or being overburdened. If you are looking to
block water or seal a project, FillFoam™ can be used in conjunction with closed cell polyurethane or other products for the perfect solution.

The strength of the material or shape of the foam does not change when it is saturated with water. The weight per cubic foot of the foam will increase with the absorbed water, but the water can also be easily pulled from the adjacent soils or plants as needed. Another interesting fact, FillFoam will never saturated 100%. 30% will always remain air and cannot be saturated. This allows the foam to stay buoyant.

FillFoam while having great insulation properties is not specifically designed to be used for insulation.  Water is a bi-product of the curing material.  The excess moisture can cause damage to building materials.  When first installed, there is also an odor from the foam.  This can be an annoyance when installed in a confined space.
