“Family” – A Popular Word at HMI HMI REP Apr 30, 2015 0000 By: Paul DelFino “Welcome to the Family” are the words I have used for many years to wrap up every HMI “Discovery and Training Seminar”! The word family is continuously populated in the HMI website since it is in reality a family business that markets to families as well as major corporate entities and government. Last week, as I was queued up waiting to deliver the seminar wrap up, following Jeff’ presentation in Las Vegas, I starting thinking about the word – family - in a business context. What expectations and perceptions were created as we say “welcome to the family” or position ourselves as a family business? FAMILY BUSINESS – GOOD or BAD IMAGE? Generally family, in a business context, evokes multiple images/percepti Read More
“Out Of The Office” HMI REP Jun 30, 2014 0000 Unquestionably the highlight of my month is participating in our monthly seminars. The reasons are: I get to meet and talk with great people. I get to learn about the prior careers of our customers. I get out of the office! Over the last year I have been amazed by the diversity of our seminar attendees. Of course you would expect mudjackers, concrete flatwork entrepreneurs and spray foam professionals to be attending our monthly Discovery & Training Seminars. The surprise is the number of individuals with other prior vocations who are attending. My informal research has identified: pilots, restaurateurs, accountants, property managers, beauticians, retirees, recently separated military personnel and countless others. When I prob Read More
NEW BUSINESS CHECKLISTS HMI REP Feb 17, 2014 0000 Jeff Cvetezar I love checklists! Checklists are manifestos on how to do things right. Did you ever notice that mission critical professions use checklist the most. Ask any airline pilot or surgery room supervisor if they would take off or begin a surgical procedure without double checking the list. Many of entrepreneurs who visit HMI are considering a new business. I recently ran across a great posting on “Small Business Trends” by Anita Campbell which provided a great list for you to think about before and after your visit to the HMI seminar. http://smallbiztrends.com/2013/04/startup-checklist.html At HMI we work to help our customers in every way possible. I tapered the list presented on line for your future concrete raising and lev Read More

It was gratifying to see Concrete Construction Magazine publish an article this week which parroted Read More
Missed Opportunity – “I’m Just Too Busy to Make More Money” HMI REP Apr 29, 2013 0000 Missed Opportunity – “I’m Just Too Busy to Make More Money” Business Advice from a War Horse “Who has Been There - Done That!” Ernie Cvetezar One of my great frustrations is watching clients and new friends make the same mistake I once made. THE SYMPTOM – Many of HMI’s clients who attend our seminars and secure NEW polyurethane concrete lifting and leveling equipment do so to add an additional service to their existing business. These entrepreneurs want to diversify, grow and increase their profit margins. Too often we get feedback from customers that they love the equipment. They have successfully completed a job, but have not used the concrete raising equipment recently because they just too busy with other parts of th Read More
